The house is a small two bedroom bungalow that I would like to give a cottage feel to it. It has all wood floors. the kitchen and bath are already done with ceramic tile and brown doors and trim. It has all natural wood work but it is damaged in the living and dining room. Should I leave the bedrooms alone and just paint the woodwork and windows off white with a sand colored or perhaps you can suggest another wall color or should I just stain the woodwork with a satin rather than the high gloss finish it has? Also is it ok to have off white door trim with doors the natural wood color?.They are nice doors in the hallway that does open into the dining/living area. The house was built in 1947. my colors in the living room are greens, deep blues, burgundy, pale pinks, blues, greens and lavender accents in pillows and coffee table runner. There is also greens mostly and a little fushia. light pink and dark blue in the area rug. Thank you for all suggestions
All the wood floors are already done. I am working on the trim which is from 1947..it isn’t nice trim, it is cheap looking. I can’t nor would I replace the windows as I won’t recoup my investment. So the windows trim must be replaced or painted. As for the trim I could just tone it down with satin finish.
First off, the carpet cannot be changed. Secondly, right now the walls are stark white and I’m not feeling it. Third, when I say mauve pink let me remind you it is not baby girl pink, nor is it barbie hot pink. Fourth, my room is real small. (I’d give measurements but I’m not there right now. But trust me, it’s small.) It is also square-not rectangular or odd shaped. The ceiling is flat.
I also have three sets of curtains I can choose from. (The room only has one window.) I can put up solid mauve pink with cream white lace accent w/ matching valance; a sheer white lace curtain with floral design; or a sheer material with an all over rose design that looks like watercolors in various shades of pink.
As you can tell, I’m a feminine decorator. I am 19 years old. I like vintage things. I love roses! I love the whole vintage shabby chic look, french boudoir, victorian, or chic beach cottage look.
Feel free to add other suggestions!!!!! I love decorating!
I lifted, cleaned and relaid the original worn and characterful clay pavers that were in my cottage when I purchased it. I have them in the new kitchen now and am wondering if it would be useful to seal them against further dirt and grease, and if so, what?
I have just purchased a cottage style home with a small kitchen. The cabinetry is honey oak and the counter top is a very light grayish blue. I have just completed removing the nasty orange wall paper and thought I was good to go on my color selection. I was going with Behr Ocean View blue on lower half of wall and Straw Hat yellow on the top half of walls and ceiling. Then I saw this lovely shade of green by Behr called Grass Cloth. I’m torn; I see possibilities with both and my accessories could work with both. Secondly, would my small kitchen look larger with one color instead being bi-colored. Your comments are welcomed.
We’re thinking of doing our bathrooms in a very light mint and cream checkered pattern. I’d like to do the walls in a verticle strip of the same colors. White pedistal sink, toilet and tub and chrome fixtures. Will this look odd?
I kind of want the place to have a 40′s beach cottage feel….any other ideas (we need to do our living room, kitchen and bedroom as well). Thanks!
The main colors in my adjoining breakfast room and living/dining room are teal, cranberry, pink and black. I don’t know what color to paint my kitchen?
I failed to mention that I painted the cabinets white. Also, the breakfast room is teal and the livingroom is taupe.
Can you give me a rough approximate estimate on what it would cost to do the following: (for a small cottage type home)
- new kitchen cabinets (very small space)
- new refridgerator, electric stove (non-stainless steel appliances)
- formica counter top (small space)
- kitchen tile (vinyl)
- dry wall for small living area
- carpeting for 3 small rooms
- washer and dryer
- white picket fence to be put along a small area
Thank you.
cost as possible. I have all the seeds and plants needs and would really like to create it using things around our place. I have all the area I need and live in the country. How would I define a place for this garden? And how should I decorate it? I live in the south so any timber projects would have to be made out of treated wood.
Thanks so much for your help in this project.
I have an empty wall in my master bedroom and I don’t know what to do with it. There really isn’t any room to put furniture against it. It is on the south side of the house w/ a small window. It’s a LOOOOONG wall too… The bed is close-by and there is enough space to walk back and forth to the bathroom. My walls are a buttery yellow and the theme of our room is shabby chic/cottage style….If you have any ideas or suggestions, please share them w/ me…it is driving me craaaaaazy….!!!
) Thanks!!!
We put Pergo American Cottage Handscraped Hickory flooring in out lake house living room and planned to put it in our kitchen after we remodel the kitchen. Now that we are ready to put it in, we realize that Lowes discontinued it. Now, we have no idea what to do. Does anyone know where we could buy it from or any websites that might sell it?? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
