what kind and color flooring should i put down in kitchen?

June 19, 2009 · 2 comments

We are having to replace a kitchen ceramic tile floor. My style is country cottage and would love to put wood down but can't afford it and my husband says no to laminate. What options would look good? My cabinets are off white cream color and we have terra cotta tile backsplash with granite looking counter tops that are mostly brown and black. Any suggestions for the flooring?

I think you should rethink wood, as it would totally go with your style and is not always as expensive as you think. We got a Brazilian cherry floor from a store that was hurting for business and they offered to match our price from Home Depot for laminate. Otherwise, a stone-look ceramic in cream would work with your countertop. Here's more on wood:

There are so many options… besides wood or tile there is:
Laminate
vinyl
rubber
cork
bamboo
linoleum
Stone

Laminate is a great floor - can imitate other floors like hardwood or tile

***Vinyl has a great brand called Konecto - so easy to maintain Allergy and pet friendly :ALSO:::: VINYL IS THE MOST POPULAR KITCHEN FLOORING!!!!!!

Cork is so wonderful - easy to maintain, a good sweep is all it needs and it helps reduce allergens (budget friendly)

Bamboo - eco friendly (when using the proper adhesives etc.) easy to maintain, and very beautiful

Rubber - Dont think black disgusting rubber - there are some really amazing prints and options for rubber flooring - very easy to maintain.

Linoleum is very easy to install and maintain as well…

Stone- a little tougher to install depending on the stone, some stones are very porous too… so check out the link below and see what fits you best. and within your budget

You can find every type of flooring on this site, how to care and clean them, blogs on them, consumer feed back, types, buying guides, and DIY videos and installation guides too.. all free. HAVE FUN!
