What are some EASY picnic desserts?

July 26, 2010 · 9 comments

My best friends and I are planning a collective birthday vacation. (All four of our birthdays are in July and August). We will be going to Olema, California, which is a beautiful coastal town.
I have decided that I want to be the chef, and I have compiled a menu for the entirety of our trip. One of our more important meals will be a picnic.
I have already decided on the "real" food, such as entrees and sides, but I am having a lot of trouble with the desserts. Ideally, I would like to have two dessert options for my friends and I to choose from.
Does anyone have some EASY picnic ideas? Please keep in mind that I will either: need to transport the desserts from my home, which is 2.5 hours away from Olema OR make the desserts in the small kitchen at the cottage we will be renting.

P.S.: Are rice crispy treats too awkward for a picnic?
How did I never think of cookies?!
And brownies sound amazing! But I think I might save them for an after-dinner dessert, and serve them hot with vanilla ice cream :)

THANK YOU FOR ALL OF THE GREAT IDEAS, EVERYONE!

Rice Crispy treats would be great for a picnic, but they may get sticky if it is too hot. Sugar cookies would be good, not chocolate chip, as they tend to get gooey. Peanut butter cookies would be good or oatmeal and raisin. Cookies will not go bad as fast as cake, pie, or other. Watermelon would also be good.

Rice Crispy treats would be fine for a picnic. Also, you could make a cupcake and decorate it to look nice if you wanted something nicer. Brownies and cookies would be good also!

not at all! i would suggest rice crispy squares, cupcakes (get a boxed cake if you want, all you add is eggs and water), cookies, maybe pudding? Or Parfaits which are delicious! here’s a good recipe:

Crush 1 pack of vanilla wafers
cut up 3-6 bananas (depending on number of people)
2-3 packs of vanilla pudding
a bunch of plastic cups.

put a layer of crushed wafers in the bottom the cups, and a layer of pudding ( 1/3 of the way up)
and then a layer of banana slices. Fill the rest up with pudding and top with 3 slices of banana for decoration. Soo yummy and takes minutes to prep :)
enjoy your picnic

http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Easy-Batter-Fruit-Cobbler/Detail.aspx this recipe will serve you well. It’s a super easy batter with butter melted on the bottom (it doesn’t specify, but use salted butter; you will not regret it) and you just dump the fruit in. It requires only one bowl and one pan, and only a few staple ingredients (milk, butter, flour, etc).

An angel food cake, fresh strawberries and whipped cream (out of a can) You can prepare the strawberries in advance, by cutting them up and adding a little sugar to taste. Fruit salad. And my all time favorite for a picnic, home made ice cream.

cherries or watermelon are always big hits at picnics - no muss, no fuss and super yummy
brownies (box mix or grocery store made make em super simple)

rice krispy treats would be yummy, but very sticky so bring some wet wipes.

Make something that doesn’t spoil. Cake, cookies, donuts.
