want 2 adopt a kitten.have one older cat.husband and i purchased an old house, and are fixing it up.the rooms that are done are lovely.the rooms that are in progress look worn and old.pet adoption agency wants to do home inspection.we are well able to afford pets, just spent 0 on eye operation 4 older cat.but, this is a restored 1940′2 brick cottage, still under construction.i’m afraid i will be judged/rejected because part of the house is still being worked on.the pets would stay in the areas that are done-2 bedrooms, living room, kitchen and dining area.should we try for the kitten we want,or cancel inspection and try in 6 months or so,when complete?we have a beautiful, classic house, but we are competing with mcmansions and 8oo,ooo dollar homes-i’m afraid to be judged?????

call and tell them and see if it would be a problem. i don’t see why it would be one but it never hurts to ask.
Yes you are afraid of being judged. Hey your great. They actually can’t take off points for the house being under consurction. All they really want to see is that you have pets, know how to take care of them, Have time for them, can afford to keep them, and will be resposible for them. Thats all they want if they get into any more then that it goes agaist your right as a loving pet owner to be deined on the basis that your house is being worked on. I went through this 3 monthes ago and then again 2 weeks ago my aunt is an aspca officer and said if they give any issues then their not looking at what they need to be looking at.
I would call them and explain everything u mentioned her on Yahoo and ask them. Each agency is different. But if u have a way to keep them in the finished part of the house I don’t c the problem:)
Inspectors for adoption agencies are usually nice…explain precautions you’re taking to make sure the kitten stays safe and show that it is a loving environment. Good for you for adopting…
You sound like perfect pet adopters to me! Willing to take on tasks and projects aside from your animals, spending $ on operations for pets you care about, caring about others’ opinions. Your home will be lovely and satisfying. You care enough to worry about keeping pets in safe areas. Congrats!
If the people reject you. Poo on them. You sound very nice, and very responsible to have this kitten. If you dont get this one, Go to a different place, their are many unwanted kittens that would love you :).
The worst they can say is that you have to finish the construction first.
Tell ‘em the facts, show ‘em the space that’s fixed and how you can restrict the kitten to that area and you shouldn’t have a problem - if the inspector says "No" you can go somewhere else for a kitten or wait and try again later.
Good luck on getting your kitten!!
Don’t worry! Explain the situation- most adoption agencies are looking to make sure the animal will have adequate access to food, water and a litter box! They will also ask you where the kitten will sleep, your vet ect. I was the same way when the adoption agency came after I got my dog- trust me they are greatful for your kindness and you sound like someone who will make a kitten very happy!
explain to them that you are doing some remodeling….it shouldn’t be too bad.
Well, on the house — it sounds beautiful and wonderful. If you are willing to spend so much time on something you love, I think it says something about your personality. I’d imagine that the love you are putting into the house would translate toward a cat. Also, by taking in and thinking of your potential kitten’s safety while doing this - you are showing that you are a great future pet owner!
I adopted from an agency that saw my place also, and all they wanted to know is 1. where’s the litter box(es), 2. where the cat was to sleep, 3. if you will let the cat have enough space to play.
Good luck!
You won’t be judged on how much your house costs, whether its as fancy as you neighbors’ homes or anything like that. Your house will be checked to see if it is safe for cats to live in. The care you have given your older cat will work in your favor. People in two bedroom houses or studio apartments are lovely pet owners. I wouldn’t worry on that count.
It is possible they will ask you to delay adoption until your house is closer to finished, but there is also a chance they’ll recognize that you’re a responsible pet owner and let you have your kitten now.
I would be perfectly forthcoming with them, and let them know that you want the best for the kitten. They will probably see that you are one of those kinds of pet owners they hope will come and adopt kittens!
