We just bought a house. it has been vacant for a year. There is mold on the out side of the kitchen cabnits,in the cabnits its on all the wood molding top and bottom, in the window seals, under the bathroom sink, under the kitchen sink.I had realy nice cabnits intell I cleaned them all with bleach. My Husband and his brother and his best friend keep telling me its because the house has been shut up for a year just let it air out and it will be fine so they all say.Well I think in my past I remember my Father saying where there is mold there is water problems some where, could it be because of water condentation? I know I spellt that wrong, any way all the water pipes to me look like they are sweating. The pipes are copper. The house smells of mold.Iam realy worryed that we bought a house with a bad mold problem. The house was bank owned, a forclosure as is, We wunted to have the house inspected before we bought it but the bank said no because it was as is,which I have never heard that before. The house was built in the 40s It was a seasonal cottage then turned in to a yera round cottage it is very tiny but any way its are house now. Please if anybody knows what I can do to fixs the mold problem and does anyone think my therey could be right?and is Husband and friends wrong?Any help I need all I can get!!! If the problem is only in a few areas of the house i would get bleach to kill/clean it up and fix the source, leaking pipe or condensation, if you have an extreme amount of humidity i would consider getting a dehumidifier or air conditioner and running it constantly. If it was a really big problem i would call in professionals because there may be hidden mold depending on the situation. Also to stop pipes from sweating you can buy cheap foam made for that purpose at most hardware stores, hope that helps.
WOW. You really should of had the house inspected. Not sure how the bank would tell u that u couldnt do that. For the mold. You will prolly have to use the killz paint and then paint over that. Look around on the web for pics of painting ur kitchen cabnets.
Ok to find is the pipes are sweating at 8.30 take a meter reading and use no water till 12 o clock if the meter is at the same reading no sweating or leaking hope this helps u
the water on the copper pipes..is condensation…it usually only will do this on the cold water pipe…you can purchase pre split lenghts of armorflex,,,, and install them on the pipes… Armorflex pipe insulation……as far as the mold goes a picture will help……I beleive your husband is right…… time will tell
