We live in an old railway workers cottage, and ever since moving in, have had a terrible problem with slugs. On an evening, there are slugs all over the kitchen floor, and by the morning the living room carpet is covered in slime. We can’t seem to locate where they are coming from, but our daughter is scared silly of them. We need a safe way of getting rid of them, as we have two young kids. Help please?

I dont like slugs either so I cant blame your daughter. I think u should try putting garlic and salt on the floor. That might put them off.

uhh we had that problem. my mum just used pellets overnight while we were sleeping. then she woke up early in the morning to get rid of the stuff so we didnt see. we have a nice mum
i have never heard of slugs being a problem like that.
kinda interesting.. but im sure a pain so just call the local exterminator for the best solution
Salt is the safest way to get rid of them, and try to seal off where ever it is they are coming from.
check the sealants around your doors. I get the odd intruder comming through the patio door
use a dehumidifire because you are getting to much moisture in the house
i would say you would have to call the exterminator and see what they can do. i dont know if theres anything you could do i have never heard of anybody having a slug problem before. i do not envy you.
They must be coming under your door. Ive had the same problem. I lined the edge of my door outside with salt. They won’t cross it.
id put salt around doorways if you think they’re coming from outside. It dissolves them
salt ain’t going to do anything other than leave dead slugs on the carpet depending on how young your children are you could always try slug repellent
pour some salt quickly.
Ok look on line for someone who can get slugs out of your house. if you cant find anybody put salt on your floors or where ever they are they will not go near salt.Be carfel if there is to much sugar in the salt the slugs will be atracted to it.
Go to the hardware store and buy Slug-Getta or some other type of slug bait, sprinkle around the house. The slugs will eat it, the next day, you will see lots of dried up, slugs outside. You must really have a moisture problem around your house. If you can sprinkle some underneath the house, do that also. Yuk, I hate slugs.

pour salt on them…it burns them instantly. you will have to do it every night until they are all gone… but it works. I had a problem with them on my deck.. i had to go out every night and pour salt on them for a month ..but then they were all gone and i haven’t seen one since
i would check round all doors and skirting boards to see if any gaps where they could get in, then fill the gaps, put salt round edges of inside walls and front and back door
I don’t know what to tell you except when we went to visited our Aunt (Tanta) in Germany they had a bad slug problem. Every night she put out a shallow bowl filled with beer. (No kidding). The slugs would all be in the bowl in the morning. Eventually, the breeding slows down.
To keep them off the carpet, I’d put them in areas around the walls; See which ones fill up the fastest and slowly narrow down where the opening is. The ones that fill up the most the fastest are near the source.
Oh my god! Ha, thats crazy! I’ve never heard of slugs in a house before! They must be attracted to something. Is there anything that they could eat in the house?
Is it very cold and dry where you live, perhaps they are attracted to the warmth and damp if your house is damp. Though I’ve never known them to like heat.
I imagine if you have central heating they wouldn’t like that very much as it makes the air so dry.
The only thing I can think of really is putting down slug pellets and removing the bodies then (away from where the kids would be in contact with the pellets). Also seal of anywhere they can get into the house during the night. Oh and try putting salt just outside the door, making sure there is no gaps where they could get in.

Ask her if she knows what is in an enchilatta. Tastes like chicken. Uh huh. Slugs like moist conditions so keep it dry inside. They hate hot cooking oil too and salt. Also will back away from sharp knives, forks, hammers, and loaded shotguns. (Something in the lead pellets).
Do make sure your upper windows are not open at night as the "flying slugs" come in that way and sprinkle their eggs all over the warm floors.(like spores) and they seem to feed on floor cleaning products.
You poor thing, that sounds horrid.
Could try a perimeter of salt round the outside of the house…as it by the wall. Or even a line of salt along all the skirtings on the ground floor inside. This wouldn’t be affected by rain.
They must be coming from outside so, at the very least, this method could show where they are getting in and then give you something more to work on.
pour salt around your kitchen door that leads in to the garden and along the inside kitchen door way that leads to other rooms, do this every night. Check under your kitchen sink, behind the washing machine any where that is dark and possibly damp. scour your house for holes and block them all up. Also check your overflows in the kitchen and bathroom sinks! I had slugs coming out of mine while I was doing the washing up, if they are in there make a funnel and pour some powerful bleach down it.
A bit of salt along the perimeter and doorways.
Also, if you have an eye dropper, you can use VINEGAR on the actual slug they will start to dissolve!
If you are going to use salt , it will leave an awful mess it sort of melts them . sand might be an option or course grit around where you suspect they may be getting in but i think the best thing to do would ask your local pest controller or council
