HELP! Kitchen Color Dilemma?

February 3, 2010 · 6 comments

I have just purchased a cottage style home with a small kitchen. The cabinetry is honey oak and the counter top is a very light grayish blue. I have just completed removing the nasty orange wall paper and thought I was good to go on my color selection. I was going with Behr Ocean View blue on lower half of wall and Straw Hat yellow on the top half of walls and ceiling. Then I saw this lovely shade of green by Behr called Grass Cloth. I’m torn; I see possibilities with both and my accessories could work with both. Secondly, would my small kitchen look larger with one color instead being bi-colored. Your comments are welcomed.

Go to the sherwinwilliams website and use the color visualizer program, this will help you see just what colors to work with, It has different rooms to choose from, you can do trim walls furniture and pick what ever color you want, have fun, be sure to write down what colors you are looking at. go to a sherwin williams store and get a color sample and then match that with the paint you are getting.

I’d paint it one color. If its a smaller room the one color hoice will make it appear larger.

Color and size have no connection. It is lighting and size that are connected. If you can spring for some recessed lights, put them around the perimeter as over the counters a possible. Blue is the least appetizing color there is, statically speaking. 2 colors are more interesting than one. See some kitchens I have done… http://www.kitchenenthusiast.com
For the best possible kitchen, when you can afford new cabinets check out Columbia Cabinets http://www.columbiacabinets.net

Paint one color with something different for the back splash

Paint the wall one color. choose the color you like the best. you can buy sample bottles of both colors to see what it will look like in the room. Remember, the lighting in your home will determine which color looks the best.
