no, it wouldnt be tacky at all. Usually, the style of a house has more to do with the exterior architecture than the interior rooms. You will not clash with the exterior colonial look of your house at all by redoing one of the bedrooms inside.
Just don't go overboard with the "theme" look. that can end up looking tacky no matter what the style of the house.
How you pull off a look has less to do with the style home you have and more to do with the effort you put into it. If a cottage style room is what you want, then by all means go for it! Your bedroom should have the feel that you are looking for it to have so when you are in it, you are where your mind wants to be….. Good luck and have fun with the decorating
